Obedience and adherence to the teaching of the lord Messiah
Jesus are the central points of the “Christian Faith.” The core message of the
New Testament is clearly summed up in Hebrews 5:9: “Salvation is
granted to those who obey the Son.”
Paul says:
Romans 1:5: through whom [Jesus] we have received grace
and apostleship to bring about the “obedience of faith” for
the sake of his name among all the nations…
Romans 16:25-27: Now to him who is able to strengthen you
according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus the Messiah, according to the
revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been
disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all
nations, according to the command of the eternal God - Yehovah, to bring about
the “obedience of faith” to the only wise God - Yehovah be
glory forevermore through Jesus the Messiah! Amen.
Romans 2:8: but for those who are
self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness,
there will be wrath and fury.
Paul is citing the principles of obedience from Proverbs:
Proverbs 5:7, 21: And now, O sons/daughters, listen to
me, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. - For a man's ways
are before the eyes of Yehovah, and he makes level all his
paths.
Proverbs 7:24: And now, O sons/daughters, listen to
me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth.
Romans 8:6-7; 32-33: Hear, for I will speak noble things,
and from my lips will come what is right, for my mouth will utter truth….; “And
now, O sons/daughters, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear
instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.
Proverbs 12:15: The way of a fool is right in his own
eyes, but a wise man/woman listens to advice.
Proverbs 19:20: Listen to advice and accept
instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.
Faith without obedience is a false faith.
Obedience implies works, and so James is right to warn:
James
2:21-24: Was not Abraham our father justified [declared righteous] by works
when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active
along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture
was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God - Yehovah, and it was counted
to him as righteousness,” Obedience
begins with our intelligent response to Jesus’ opening command in command in
Mark 1:14-15: Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee,
proclaiming the gospel [good news] of God, and saying, “The time is
fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe in the
gospel [the good news of the coming Kingdom of God - Yehovah.” Mark
12:29: …. ‘Hear, O Israel: Yehovah our God, Yehovah is one.' To hear
means to obey. In the case of Christians, it is to believe – obey the words
of the lord Messiah Jesus who was acting as the agent of his God and Father
Yehovah. Jesus spoke forth the words Yehovah gave him to give to the world. Notice – John 12:49: For I did
not speak on my own, but the Father – Yehovah who sent me, He has given me a
command as to what to say and what to speak. Obedience begins with our
