THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER

Matthew 13:2-23: And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying:

“A Sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.

Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose, they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.

Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.

Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

He who has ears, let him hear.”

The Purpose of the Parables

Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”

And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven [God], but to them it has not been given.

For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says:

"You will indeed hear but never understand,

and you will indeed see but never perceive.
For this people's heart has grown dull,
and with their ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed,
lest they should see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart
and turn, and I would heal them."

But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

The Parable of the Sower Explained

“Hear then the parable of the Sower:

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom [the good news about the Kingdom of God] and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.

As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.

As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER

Luke 8:4-15: When many people were gathered together, and were come unto him out of all cities, he spake by a parable.

A Sower went out to sow his seed, and as he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and it was trodden under feet, and the fowls of heaven devoured it up.

And some fell on the stones, and when it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

And some fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit, a hundredfold. And as he said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

Then his disciples asked him, what parable that was.

And he said, unto you it is given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but to others in parables, that when they see, they should not see [spiritually], and when they hear, they should not understand.

The Parable of the Sower explained

The parable is this: The seed is the word of God [the good news about the coming kingdom of God].

And they that are beside the way, are they that hear: afterward comes the devil, and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe, and be saved.

Note: If a person does not believe in the coming Kingdom of God, he cannot be saved.

But they that are on the stones, are they which when they have heard, receive the word [about the coming Kingdom of God] with joy: but they have no roots: that for a while believe, but in the time of temptation go away.

And that which fell among thorns, are they which have heard [the word about the Kingdom of God], and after their departure [After hearing the word, they go about their business], are choked with cares and with riches, and voluptuous living, and bring forth no fruit.

But that [seeds] which fell in good ground are they which with an honest and good heart hear the word, and keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Note: Acts 8:12: When they believed Philip’s preaching of the things concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus the Messiah, they were baptized, both men and women.

Note: When you preach about the name of Jesus the Messiah, that includes everything he did during his ministry on this earth, and when he offered himself up to his God and his Father Yehovah, as a sin-offering sacrifice so that God - Yehovah, could reconcile humanity to Himself. It also includes the position the lord Messiah Jesus now has at the right hand of God, as lord and Messiah with power over all creation, with only God excluded!
