What's on your mind right now? Do you wonder how you're going to pay the bills? Find a job? Make the house payment? Get your car fixed? Get healed from the sickness you're battling? Handle your wayward child? Fix your troubled marriage? Restore your broken relationship with your family? Handle all the responsibilities that are wearing you down?
Why is it so important to have a daily quiet time with our LORD God and meditate on His Holy Scriptures? Because what we are thinking and believing results in how we are living and behaving.
Often times, we are merely reacting to our lives, when we should be actively and intentionally, giving our day and our worries to our God and trusting Him with all of it! Our desire to control everything and everyone in our lives, to ward off bad things happening or to prevent pain and hurt, usually backfires. Our anxieties and worries about our circumstances or the people in our lives, makes us want to pull tighter and live scared, out of plain fear. Anger, fear, anxiety, loss of control over a situation, can eat us up. Make us sick. Lead us into depression and panic attacks. Scare us.
Most of the time, we don't even realize we're living like this. We just let our thoughts dwell, over and over again, on the problems and our hopelessness, and the cycle repeats. We just keep getting the same negative results and aren't sure what to do about it and how to stop it. The joy of living departs from our attitudes and we may have to drag ourselves out of bed in the mornings. Maybe we're good at hiding it, and no one even knows we are battling something. We become grouchy, sour, and growl at our loved ones. Our beautiful lives start to lose their shine, taking on the lackluster, dull finish that looks old, harried, used up, and so rough around the edges, no one can even come near us, even if they wanted to. If they do, we hurt them.
The wall we've built up to protect our inner selves, actually just keeps people out. We become isolated, lonely, and even more fearful and anxious. Our attempts at protection, control, handling and solving our own problems, fails, and we're miserable or on our way there, if we don't make some changes in a hurry.
We wake up one day, to find that our life is full of anxiety, fear, and sadness. We're enslaved. Once we chose to worry and fear, now fear and worry chooses us. We can't escape from its grasp.
This is not the life Jesus intended for us.
Jesus said in John 10:10, "A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come, so that they may have life and have it in abundance."
When the worries and anxieties of this life want to pull us down, we MUST (this is not optional, only when you "feel" like it, but a "must!"), turn to God daily, and give him our burdens, and then trust Him with them! It's a daily cultivating of faith - working those muscles that maybe we haven't used for awhile, which will feel stiff and achy from being inactive - when we turn to our God and no matter what our circumstances, trust Him to take care of us and our loved ones in our life. Even the situations that seem impossible. Nothing, I repeat, nothing is too difficult for our God, Yahweh.
Let me warn you:
Things are going to get a lot harder than they are right now. If you think this is bad? Honey, you ain't seen nothin' yet!
The end of this age draws near.
Do not wait until the last minute, to think you can suddenly have strong faith in our God, Yahweh. It's a daily, sometimes hour by hour, and even minute by minute, learning to rely upon our LORD God to TRUST HIM to hold everything for us, while we keep our eyes upward, loving and obeying the one true God with all our hearts, souls and minds, and loving others. Those two things are all we are asked to do. Not quite so overwhelming and stressful, when you put it that way, is it?
So, when this life seems a bit too overwhelming, too stressed, too scary, and you can't see the future and you're not sure how things are going to turn out? Turn to Yahweh. He Holds Everything...if you let Him.
"Look at the birds of the sky: They don't sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Aren't you worth more than they?
Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying?"
"Aren't two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's consent.
But even the hairs of your head have all been counted.
So don't be afraid, therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows!"
Want to dive into the Scriptures yourself? Open up your Bible (or look it up online) and read Matthew 6:25 - 34, Matthew 10:29-31.
Wanna really tackle fear?
Memorize one of the verses that really speaks to you, and then meditate on it, even speak it out loud, rather than dwell on your circumstances, and be amazed at what God will do with your obedient, trusting heart.
