The Lightness Of The Priesthood

1 Peter 2:9 Peter call us a royal priesthood. Priests in Hebrew is kohanim. In God's anointed one we are one of God's kohanim - the spiritual version of the priests of Israel. All the tribes of Israel had an inheritance, except for Levi and particularly the kohanim - the priests. They alone had no inheritance, no real estate. The reason was that God wanted them to be unattached and free to serve Him, worship Him, and to have their hearts devoted to HIm. Numbers 18:20 says, "For I shall be their inheritance." God was their inheritance. That's true for us, if we are His priests. We have no inheritance in this world, because we are not of this world; as such our possessions and riches are not here. As priests of God, we can't get attached and weighed down by things of this world. God want us to be free so we can serve and glorify Him. God has called us as those not of this world to serve Him, do His will, enter His presence, and know His glory. We need to live out our calling as priests of God, because He has called us for something much greater than the things of this world. God Himself is our inheritance, we are His heirs and as such will in the coming new age, inherit the entire world with His anointed one. Amazing Grace!
